Prevent Hacking and Viruses – Keep Your WordPress Blog Up To Date

April 26th, 2010

In the last 12 months, I’ve had three clients with WordPress blogs get hacked into. In every case, the WordPress version had become outdated. So if you see a little message like this when you log into your WordPress Dashboard:

Don’t ignore it, just hit the “Please update now” link and follow the instructions.

WordPress may release updates every month, or every few months, so be sure to log into your blog at least monthly to check for a new version number.

Prevent hacking and viruses – keep your WordPress Blog updated!

  1. Website Center Says:

This is great/important advice that literally tons of people ignore and forget. I would even go as far as to say to log into your wordpress much more frequently than once a month. If, for example, your akismet is outdated, you can potentially have hundreds of spam comments or problems that could potentially cause viruses as you mentioned. This is a simple website management step that more people need to remember. Thanks for touching on this Jill!

  2. Site O Rific Says:

Thanks for the reminder, I have not done it for months!
