Bluehost vs Dreamhost – Downtime and Response Time
November 28th, 2012In mid August of this year, 2012, I moved my website to a new hosting company BlueHost.com. I moved away from DreamHost.com. While I made the move for mostly customer service reasons, I can now see the difference in my website’s downtime and response time. Downtime is the percentage of time your website is unavailable. Response time is the length of time it takes your home page to fully load. Both of these metrics are tracked by my website traffic tool, Web-Stat.
From January 1, 2012 to August 15, 2012, I was on DreamHost.
My downtime was 0.84%, nearly 1% of the time, pretty awful.
My website’s response time was 0.44 seconds.
From August 15, 2012 to today (November 19, 2012), on BlueHost:
My downtime was 0.12% (that’s 7 times less downtime).
My website’s response time was 0.26 seconds.
So by moving my website from DreamHost to BlueHost, I not only am getting way better customer service (BlueHost has a 24/7 phone support line, DreamHost only has online support tickets with intermittent live chat), I have also dramatically decreased my website’s downtime and improved my website’s response time. Pretty darn good decision!
