Does your hosting company have your correct email address and credit card number?
December 15th, 2008Does your web hosting company have your correct email address and credit card number? Are you sure? Really sure?
Unless you’re 100% sure, I suggest you double check. One of my clients had a nasty surprise recently when her website went down – and the cause: the hosting company (Aplus.net) had an outdated credit card and the incorrect email address. While I’m not sure how many warnings they sent her – when the credit card failed and the client didn’t respond to emails – they simply took her website down. (Even though the correct email address was actually on the website itself, go figure)
Good thing she noticed! Many folks don’t regularly check their website status and might not have noticed. Luckily we were able to recover her website files and are moving to a new hosting company that’s easier to work with.
But let’s all learn a lesson from this – take a moment and log into the control panel of your website hosting company and make sure that they have the right email and right credit card number. I just did this and realized that even my credit card number was outdated!
