Which Is The Best Content Management System (CMS)
November 14th, 2012I recently listened in on an online internet marketing webinar – and one of the participants asked the person hosting the event what the best content management system was to use for a small business website that was search engine friendly and easy to use. Their answer might surprise you.
They said “WordPress”. Mind you, this is a very large, exclusive, expensive Seattle-based internet marketing company. These folks are the cream of the search engine optimization crop. They have clients like Amazon. And they said “WordPress”. Wow.
For years I’ve been using WordPress when clients want to control all of their website content – and now I feel extra super good about that. WordPress. in their opinion. was more robust and user friendly than some of the other big name content management systems like Joomla and Drupal.
I have to agree…I tried helping a client use Joomla that had been installed by another web designer – and it was a miserable experience that I vowed not to repeat. The whole point of a content management system is to be easy enough for a busy, distracted, hard-working small business owner can use it without getting a headache. The only content management system that meets that criteria is WordPress – and I’m not alone in that opinion apparently.
If you want to know more about using WordPress as a content management system (CMS) for your small business website, please contact me.

Different key strokes for different folks I guess – I’m experiencing the painful curve of learning WP for a new client and having converted dozens of websites from the confusion of WP to Joomla for many a lost client I do not find anything about WP being intuitive or friendly.
Personally I find WP very unforgiving about making template modifications and requiring a lot of work to create anything other than a basic blog site. IMHO WP is clunky, hard to navigate, and far from end user friendly, whereas once my clients FIRST look at their new Joomla administration panel they immediately fall in love with the easy of navigating and doing exactly what they wanted to with little training, intervention, or help from me.
I tried several CMS over the years, including Drupal and Dolphin, and find Joomla far easier to create robust, stylish, inviting, and very interactive websites than with WP.
A study done in 2009 estimated about 2.5% of all SUCCESSFUL websites (the top 1 Millions sites) on the internet are running Joomla and with over 35 million downloads by 2007. I figure folks like Avis, Burger King, Cox Cable, eBay, Hewlett-Packard, Mitsubishi, Olympus, Porche, The United Nations, The World Health Organization, and over 206 International Government (including 35 or the 50 US States) web owners can’t be wrong.
