WordPress and Internet Explorer IE 9 Incompatibility – Unable To Modify Posts

June 23rd, 2011

Today one of my WordPress clients couldn’t modify any of her posts. She was using a computer with IE 9. I was on my computer using Firefox, and could modify her posts with no problem. A quick search on Google yielded others with the identical issue. For this client, all I could recommend was to switch Firefox, which she did and verified problem solved. You can view the identical issue reported here on the WordPress.com forum.

Whilst I may be no expert on WordPress, I do know quite a bit about Microsoft and its browser IE. We all I think owe Microsoft a big thank you for Windows, where would we be today without it? But because IE is built in many people do not realise there are some great alternatives out there and have been since the early days of the web. I personally use Opera as my browser of choice and sometimes Firefox, I am quite happy using Chrome and I use IE as a last resort. Like last night when I wanted to update OS on my Blackberry and the site would only work using IE, arghh!
Could be coincidence but here in the UK this last week a bank has had a big issue with its customers being unable to access their accounts using IE9. I am firm believer in if it ain’t broke don’t fix it but Microsoft on the other hand are always updating to the point where other bits do not work.

    Hi Paul,
As usual, I totally agree. People don’t realize there are better browsers than IE – folks don’t even know what a browser is most times I ask them what they are using. I mostly use Firefox and occasionally Safari or Chrome. I only use IE if I’m checking a web design.

Your IE9 bank news is very, very interesting. Sounds like IE9 was released before it was fully baked.

Interesting, and doesn’t surprise me at all to be honest. I made a post recently about IE9 causing Open office to crash. Lots of people seem to suspect it is a deliberate ploy by Microsoft to kill off open source competitors, but my philosophy is to never suspect a conspiracy when something could just as easily be explained by incompetence 🙂

My partner always says, when you hear galloping, think horses not zebras….and it’s easily extended to think incompetence not conspiracy 🙂
    Thanks for the comment!!
