Feedburner – Publicize Your WordPress Blog

November 8th, 2007

Feedburner is a free service that can help you promote your blog. Blogging is a world unto itself, and Feedburner is a great tool to use to help get more traffic to your blog. Here’s a link to the Feedburner Blog page, that will give you an idea of some of the benefits. Here’s a list of some of the changes I’ve made to my own blog, based on joining Feedburner.

Redirect Blog Feeds Through Feedburner: I now redirect all of my blog feeds through Feedburner, so that Feedburner can track how many folks have subscribed to my blog. There is a plug-in for WordPress called FeedSmith, that you can install that helps make this happen.

Email Subscriptions: I now can offer email subscriptions to my blog via Feedburner, because, let’s face it, few folks know and understand how to read a RSS feed. This way everyone can get my blog, not just those who use an RSS feed reader.

Browser Auto-Recognize: I’ve added code to all of my web pages that cause that little orange RSS feed icon to the top of every URL field, so that no matter where folks are on my site, they can click to subscribe to my blog.

Long List Of Other Features: Feedburner has such a long list of other features, I just can’t list them all. But I would encourage all of you who have a blog to go to Feedburner and sign up for a free account, take a look at the services available, and then give me a holler if you need help configuring WordPress or your website.

Happy blogging!

Jill
