Are you a member of Facebook and have noticed that when you’re logged in, it seems that on many major websites, the site seems to know that you’re on it? Are you concerned about privacy and don’t want Facebook following you around? An engineer who works for Google has created “Facebook Disconnect”.

“Google engineer Brian Kennish has created Facebook Disconnect, an extension for Google Chrome that covers your tracks while you surf the Web and, according to Kennish’s description, “blocks all traffic from third-party sites to Facebook servers,” while still allowing you access to Facebook.com.”

I recently joined Facebook and after being on for a few weeks, decided to terminate my account over concerns regarding privacy. I must admit, it was a little creepy to be visiting websites that I visited before I joined Facebook, and suddenly it was as if my familiar websites were connected to my Facebook account. Apparently this is called “Facebook Connect”.

If this kind of thing has been bugging you, and you’re a Chrome user (Chrome is a web browser made by Google), then maybe Facebook Disconnect will help. The article doesn’t state whether it’s available for Firefox or Safari.
