WordPress Blog Posts/Articles Get Crawled and Indexed Quickly by Google

I often encourage my small business clients to add WordPress blogs to their websites. WordPress blogs are a wonderful way to add relevant content that attracts visitors. Before visitors can find your WordPress blog article though, the search engines, like Google, need to crawl over your blog article and index it. How long does it take for search engines to become aware of a blog article, crawl it and index it? Read on…

I wrote an article last night on “Dynamic Ad Titles“. The article was posted at around 8:00 PM last night as you can see from the timestamp below:

The next morning, I did a search on Google for the keywords I had targeted in the article: “dynamic ad title”. Here’s what I found:

My article was listed fourth, out of 1,520,000 articles (wow!) and was crawled 13 hours earlier.

This means Google crawled my blog article around 10pm the previous evening. So if I posted the article at 8:00pm, this means that Google crawled and indexed my article 2 hours after I posted it!

I should also note, that searches in Yahoo and MSN did not yield evidence that either of them had indexed my article. No wonder Google is the #1 search engine.

If you’d like to read more about adding a blog to your website, visit my blog page. Blogs are a wonderful way to help attract traffic to your website as long as the articles are written on ONE topic and the blog’s title has been optimized for search engines. Keep blogging!

thanks. But how do you get google to crawl your blog in the first place? We created a new WP blog and it’s been a few days no google visit – any sugestions?

    Hi Anthony,
If you’re blog is brand new, I’m not sure how long it will take – for new websites, it sometimes take a month or more to get crawled. The more in-links you have the better. There is a whole checklist of things I do for new websites to make sure Google can crawl around. Sitemaps, submitting crawl request to Google, making sure other websites link to yours – all these things will help lead Google to your website.

    Anthony,
My blog did not get crawled even 48 hours after it was published. Does it help to post the link here? (http://cahomebuyer.blogspot.com/) Thanks!

    Hi Josh,
Posting a link here won’t help. You need to be sure that your have your blog all set up to be search engine friendly. For WordPress, there are many plugins that work, I like the SEO pack and the Sitemap Generator. Also be sure that you’re notifying Google of new posts by the settings in the admin area (there’s a place where you can list a bunch of notification services).

hi i have been waiting for google and bing to index my blog http://www.diyanswerdirect.com/blog for two weeks now and am getting very frustrated with them. aswell as iam still waiting for them to update my site http://www.diyanswerdirect.com. My question is when do they update and how can i get them to crawl or spider my site.

Waiting for Google and Bing to crawl a new website is like watching grass grow, you need patience. To be frustrated because it has been two weeks is not having realistic expectations. If you have submitted your site, relax, and just forget about it for a month. Don’t even check. This part of the process takes patience. Focus on adding quality content and trust that Google and Bing will eventually come and visit. You can always add a sitemap plugin to make sure that once they do come, all of your pages are easily found.
